About the Prints
The finished prints are beautiful. I combine rich monochrome inks with brilliant white papers to make each printed image. These outstanding prints are museum grade, archival quality and should last around 75 years.
The image size is somewhat smaller than the paper, since I print with a border of at least 0.5 inch but no more than 1.5 inches. Prints are signed and dated on the back unless you ask for a signature on the front.
The printed images are far better than what you see on your computer screen. Low screen resolution and limited tonal range combined with the need to compress images for computer display means the images on the website are poorer copies of the final print. Though, I do try keep each website image as true as possible to the final print. Also, the copyright notice on each web image is not present in the print version. |
Each image is individually printed on museum quality archival paper stock. For paper I use Somerset Velvet and Crane's Museo depending upon the tonality requirements of the subject. I use standard paper sizes ranging from 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 12 x 16 and 13 x 19 inches. All my papers are certified as museum archival quality by the Wilhelm Institute.
I use a customized Epson printer with a continuous flow ink system. For my inks I use archival quality, variable mix black pigmented inks. The inks provide a beautiful and wide gradation in grey tones and intense blacks, which match, if not improve upon, the traditional darkroom process. Wilhelm Institute tests show these inks to last over 70 years. I print at an output resolution of approximately 300 ppi.
If you are interested in buying a print larger than 12 x 18 please let me know. |
